Following a group of young Maasai who, in a remote region of Kenya, have formed a cricket team. They relate the sport to their traditional hunting techniques – the ball is the spear, the bat is the shield – and their flowing red robes in full flight are an awesome sight. The film follows the team as they pursue their dream of reaching England, the home of cricket, and test themselves in the amateur Last Man Stands World Championship. But there is a darker heart to the story. The Maasai are male dominated, women have few rights – even to their own bodies – and girls as young as six have suffered Female Genital Mutilation and early marriages.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE REALLY SCARED!!!? From Dario Argento, maestro of the macabre and the man behind some the greatest excursions in Italian horror (Suspiria, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage), comes Deep Red – arguably the ultimate giallo movie. One night, musician Marcus Daly (David Hemmings, Blow Up), looking up from the street below, witnesses the brutal axe murder of a woman in her apartment. Racing to the scene, Marcus just manages to miss the perpetrator… or does he? As he takes on the role of amateur sleuth, Marcus finds himself ensnared in a bizarre web of murder and mystery where nothing is what it seems… Aided by a throbbing score from regular Argento-collaborators Goblin, Deep Red (aka Profondo Rosso and The Hatchet Murders) is a hallucinatory fever dream of a giallo punctuated by some of the most astonishing set-pieces the sub-genre has to offer.

Amateur football team The Trojans are about to face their toughest challenge yet - a charity match with Arsenal in front of a capacity crowd at Highbury Stadium. During the match, the Trojan's star player - John Doyce (Anthony Bushell) - collapses and is pulled onto the sidelines. He is dead and it transpires that he has been poisoned. A recent addition to the Trojans, Doyce's abrasive attitude gained him few friends, so there is both motive and suspects in abundance. Scotland Yard sends in the eccentric Inspector Slade (Leslie Banks) to get to the bottom of things and catch the culprit - and he has just three days to do it before it interferes with his theatre performance!Featuring Arsenal's 1938 Championship side and their manager George Allison, the match recorded for this film was Arsenal vs Brentford Town - this was Arsenal's last game before the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939. This was a key early film for Thorold Dickinson, a hugely influential name in British cinema who would be made Britain's first Professor of Film in 1967. Given this unique pedigree - coupled with a superbly eccentric performance from Leslie Banks - this film will appeal equally to both film buffs and football fans. This 35mm monochrome production has been digitally remastered to its original glory., Amateur football team The Trojans are about to face their toughest challenge yet - a charity match with Arsenal in front of a capacity crowd at Highbury Stadium. The Last Natural: Bryce Harper's Big Gamble in ...
9,95 € *
ggf. zzgl. Versand

Before Bryce Harper was the top pick in the Major League Baseball draft, before he signed the sport’s biggest contract ever for a first-year pro, he gambled his future on one make-or-break season. The Las Vegas High School sophomore had already dominated the competition like Mickey Mantle on the playground and appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, which dubbed him the "most exciting prodigy since LeBron James". Seeking greater tests as a hitter, the precocious phenom got his GED and enrolled at the College of Southern Nevada, where he could face pro prospects in a challenging wooden-bat league that prohibited the hitter-friendly aluminum bats used throughout college ball. Harper shattered the school’s home run record with 31 (the previous mark was 12) and compiled a startling 1.513 OPS while leading his team to the Junior College World Series. For his heroics, the 17-year-old became the only position player from a junior college to win the Golden Spikes Award, given to the nation’s best amateur baseball player. Las Vegas sportswriter Rob Miech was "embedded" with the Southern Nevada Coyotes team and brings us along for the ride - into the dugout and locker room and on team buses and in motel rooms, from the scorched fields to the snow-capped horizons of the Scenic West Athletic Conference - to deliver a warts-and-all account of a boy among men playing like a man among boys. Amid the media circus that descended upon team and town, we read fascinating personal stories including the dynamics between veteran coach Tim Chambers and Harper’s protective father, the camaraderie with - and jealousies of - other players, the fans and autograph seekers (and girls) who all want a piece of the young star, and how Harper is suspended from the World Series after protesting an umpire’s call, and the role his faith plays in his life. The Last Natural shows us a season in the life of baseball’s top rising star, culminating in a 1. Language: English. Narrator: David Marantz.
